DSS (Decision Support System)

Successful management depends on one's ability to make good decisions. That ability relies on the availability of clear and accurate information. DSS seeks to provide that information.

DSS uses operational files from Purdue's human resources, financial, and student information systems to create DSS tables which are easy to use and designed to provide quick and accurate responses to users' queries. Academic schools and business offices can use this information to manage their operations.

The Decision Support System allows access to an Oracle database server that contains much of the University's administrative data. By using Oracle query tools (such as Brio) or other software that support Open Database Connections (ODBC) such as Microsoft Excel, this data can be retrieved. Custom reports, graphs and tables can be created from this retrieved data

Brio

Brio is a query and reporting tool for accessing databases from the Windows desktop. It allows access of data that is stored on database servers without understanding the complexity of query programming language. BrioQuery allows the user to create a query of the database. The information is retrieved in a spreadsheet-like format and various reports can be created from that information.
