HR to Offer Training and Development Courses This Spring - 01/28/10

Human Resources Training and Development has announced a number of course offerings this spring semester geared for professional, as well as personal enrichment.

Topics to be covered include: an introduction to the Myers Briggs Type Indicator®, considerations in human resources (HR), five functions of teams and how to build a performance-focused team.

Here are HR’s spring semester class offerings, followed registration information:

Introduction to Myers Briggs Type Indicator® will provide a straightforward path for personal development. All staff are welcome to attend the three-hour class. Participants will examine their individual preferences for gathering information, structuring tasks and managing interpersonal dynamics, both at and away from work.

Fair, Square, and Legal is open to supervisors, managers and business office staff, who routinely encounter HR questions. During the three-hour session, participants will examine key HR legislation and learn how these federal laws are reflected within Purdue’s HR policies. The course is intended to enhance a supervisor or business office staff member’s capacity to respond to HR matters with confidence.

The Five Functions of Teams is a three-hour course designed for supervisors and managers. Participants will assess their team’s performance in the areas of trust, conflict, commitment, accountability and results. They will gain the tools needed to develop and sustain high-performance teams.

Creating a Performance Focused Environment is a two-hour course intended to provide supervisors with interview questionnaires and employee self-evaluation tools to use among their teams. These documents are designed to supplement the performance evaluation tool and enhance performance dialogues throughout the evaluation period.

Online self-enrollment, along with a listing of available times and locations for each class, is available at the Training Registration Web site. After logging into the site with a career account and password, select “Training and Development Courses” to register for the Myers Briggs Type Indicator® class; or select “Training Courses for Supervisors and Managers” to register for any of the other classes.
