New File Transfer Application Available to University Employees - 01/15/09
A new software application that will allow large files to be transferred electronically became available to Purdue personnel on Jan. 8.
Filelocker File Transfer, an application created by IT Networks & Security (ITNS), can be used to securely share files with others on and off campus in a manner that conforms to the University’s Data Handling Guidelines for Electronically Transmitted Information.
Filelocker is conveniently accessible to University employees by following a link from the applications list found in the right column of the AIS Web page and then logging in with a Purdue Career Account and password.
Filelocker is not a file storage application. Currently, the server storage per person is set to 350 MB. Once users exceed their storage allotment, existing files will need to be removed before new files can be uploaded. Files transferred will be available for seven days only.
The primary purpose of Filelocker is to provide a safe and secure means to transfer files between employees in a manner that conforms to the University’s guidelines. However, it also has been used in the University’s IT Incident Response handling process to share virus-infected files for research and analysis.
Use of the Filelocker tool is subject to Purdue University’s IT Resource Acceptable Use Policy. Copyrighted materials may not be shared via Filelocker without permission of the copyright owner.
More information about Firelocker File Transfer and how to use it can be found on the ITaP Knowledge Base Web site.
