Payroll Clarifies ‘New I-9’ Button in the Electronic I-9 System - 08/14/12
Central Payroll is offering some clarification about the functionality of the “New I-9” button located on the Employee Detail page within the electronic I-9 system (TALX).
The I-9 completer will use the “New I-9” button when an employee has changed residency status or is being rehired after a complete separation from the University. The scenarios are:
- The employee is changing residency status — The employee’s Electronic I-9 case information will be processed through E-verify to establish employment eligibility with Purdue University.
- The employee is being rehired after employment separation and it is within the retention period of three years after hire date or one year after termination, whichever is later — The employee will not need to be processed through E-verify, but the employee’s information must be re-entered into the Electronic I-9 system.
- An employee is being rehired after employment separation and it is outside the retention period mentioned above — The employee must be processed through E-verify to establish employment eligibility.
Online Electronic I-9 Service (TALX) QRCs are available to help process employees in these situations.
