WebView Replacement Preparing for November Go-Live - 10/25/12
ImageNow, the replacement product for Stellent/WebView, is on track to go live Nov. 5 for use by University Development (UD) and Nov. 19 for Central Files (CF).
In preparation for the application’s go-live status, UD will cease document scanning from 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26 through 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2; and CF will stop scanning from 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9 through 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16.
During the scanning freeze, WebView users will still be able to retrieve previously scanned materials in read-only mode. Once the new system is in place, documents scanned by UD and CF using ImageNow will be retrievable in the software’s Web-based application, WebNow, and images scanned previously in Stellent will remain viewable only in Stellent until all old images are converted to the new system.
According to Gene Ann Fausett of CF and Lisa Thomas of UD, the conversion should be complete in approximately three months. After that, both departments will use ImageNow for scanning documents and WebView for retrieving them.
ImageNow provides users with increased flexibility and querying capabilities, Fausett and Thomas say, adding that the system’s look and feel, as well as its navigation are similar to Stellent’s.
However, to help make the transition as easy as possible for Central Files users, Fausett is preparing a quick reference card containing instructions to navigate the new system. She also is planning at least one showcase for WebNow users to be presented prior to the Nov. 19 go-live.
WebView has been in place at the University for several years. Finding a replacement product became necessary last year, when ITaP learned that the application was losing Stellent’s support. WebView also was not compatible with Windows 7. Under the leadership of Brian York of ITEA, a project team composed of University Development, Business Services, Purchasing, ITaP, ITEA, ITSO and Administrative Computing identified ImageNow as the application best matching their criteria.
