Strategic Priorities and ARRA Stimulus Funding Discussed at Business Services’ Quarterly Meeting - 04/30/09

Business Services administrative and professional staff learned how their efforts contributed to the University’s and Business Services’ 2009-10 strategic plan Tuesday, April 28 at the quarterly status meeting of the Vice President for Business Services.

Two PowerPoint presentations – “VPBS Strategic Priorities” and “Impact of Stimulus Funding” – provided a visual backdrop of the key points as the speakers delivered their reports. Both presentations are available on the Vice President for Business Services & Assistant Treasurer Web site.

Directors of five Business Services areas joined James Almond, interim executive vice president for Business and Finances and treasurer, and John Shipley, interim vice president for Business Services and assistant treasurer. Each senior staff member reported on Business Services’ strategic priorities for 2009-10.

Ken Sandel, Executive Vice President and Treasurer’s Office managing director; and Mike Ludwig, Sponsored Program Services director, spoke of the potential impact on the University by Stimulus funding provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Ludwig noted that it might help generate funds for research. Sandel said the University is still evaluating how to proceed.

Also speaking were Mike Szczepanski, director of Business Services Computing; Connie Lapinskas, assistant provost for Financial Affairs; and Lucia Anderson, director of Business Managers. In discussing the 2010 Business Services budget, Almond reported on the biennial budget status.

The meeting was set in the South Ballroom of the Purdue Memorial Union.
