Business Systems Advisory Committee Learns of Completed Prioritized Projects - 12/15/09

The Business Systems Advisory Committee learned at its Dec. 10 meeting that in addition to the recent annual SAP service pack upgrade, four other Business Systems priority projects had been completed since the committee last met in November.

Of those, the project affecting the largest number of users was the implementation of PageCenterX. Through the combined leadership of IT Systems and Operations staff and the SSG Reporting Team, final testing was conducted in late October and implementation was completed on Nov. 2. Shortly after, the Reporting Team conducted three showcases to present the new functionalities of PageCenterX.

PageCenterX replaces predecessor PageCenter, the application that provided shared access to defined reports and served as a repository for mainframe historical reports. The new application has some navigational differences and allows users to log in with their Career Account. It also offers enhanced functionality, which will be rolled out in the coming months.

The team has launched the PageCenterX Tips and Tricks Web page, which provides Quick Reference Cards and other information covering a number of related subjects. The topics range from “Basic Navigation Quick Reference Card” to “How to Install the Print Plug-in.”

Business Systems Reporting provides complete details about the application on the PageCenterX Documentation Web site. The decommissioning of the old PageCenter application has not yet been scheduled. For more information about PageCenterX, please contact the SSG Reporting Team.

Other projects reported recently completed were:
-- No. 27, Interfaces for Physical Facilities Parking: The project consisted of interfaces between the new parking system and SAP. These interfaces provide current employee data and allow payroll deduction capabilities. Rick Miller led the project supported by members of the SSG HR-Payroll Support Team and several members of the OnePurdue Technical Competency Center.
-- No. 24, e-proposal & IRB-COEUS 4.3.x: The implementation of COEUS 4.3.x made possible the electronic submission of proposals to Grants.gov, electronic routing and approval of proposals and IRB protocols. It also provides a user-friendly Web portal for faculty to use COEUS.
-- No. 18, Web-based application for EE dummy SSN: Designed a Web-based tool to assign dummy Social Security numbers (SSN, 999-xx-xxxx) for nonresident aliens who do not yet have an SSN. Since all employees entered into SAP must have a valid SSN, each must be assigned a unique placeholder until they receive their SSN.

The most recent Business Systems prioritized projects list contained 42 business systems projects. OnePurdue support groups work with central and departmental business staff on Business Systems projects.

Members of the advisory committee are customers of the business systems and owners of the supported business processes. The BSAC’s next meeting will be Jan. 14.
