Annual SAP System Upgrade Underway, Slated for Dec. 10 Completion - 11/20/12

The annual SAP service pack upgrade is underway and on schedule for implementation Dec. 7-10, when the system will be unavailable for the weekend. In the meantime, however, staff are not expected to experience any interruptions in service during business hours.

During final stages of the SAP upgrade, the system will be down from 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 through 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10.

The University implemented SAP in 2007, and the system has been upgraded each year since. The upgrade service pack contains a number of fixes for possible issues that may occur, based on notes SAP gathers throughout the year.

According to Amy Keene, SAP upgrade project manager, the IT team has a practice of installing the most recent upgrade practical during the first weekend of December each year, as the service pack includes changes required for Payroll’s year-end preparations of employees’ tax-reporting forms.

“Primarily, the service pack upgrade implementation does not change the system’s operation,” Keene said, “but rather corrects errors identified by SAP.”

As the project progresses through its final stages of the implementation, the system will be down only briefly during regularly scheduled maintenance times: 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 through 4 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 25; and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.

For the final implementation, the system will be down beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 through 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10.
