PURDUE UNIVERSITY
OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT
AMENDMENT TO EXECUTIVE MEMORANDUM No. B-35, dated 15 October 1985
October 23, 1986
To: Deans, Directors, and Heads of Schools, Divisions, Departments, and Offices, and Regional Campus Chancellors
Re: Privileges Granted to Retired Staff Members and Widows/Widowers of Deceased Staff Members
At its meeting on 27 June 1986, the Board of Trustees approved changes to the University's long-term disability (LTD) insurance program. One of the changes necessitates the redefining of official retiree status in Executive Memorandum No. B-35 if the reason for termination is disability. The section changed is as follows:
RETIRED STAFF MEMBERS -- OFFICIAL RETIREE STATUS
(c) age sixty-five (65) or more if the reason for termination is disability and the person is eligible for disability income from the University group insurance program and/or PERF, and has five (5) or more years of continuous employment immediately prior to disability.
This policy change makes it possible for individuals on long-term disability to receive normal retiree benefits at age 65 so long as they were continuously employed for at least five (5) years immediately prior to going on long-term disability.
Any questions concerning this change should be directed to the Department of Staff Benefits, Payroll and Insurance (494-1694).
