Re: Due Date for the Submission of Proposals

Many grant and contract proposals do not arrive at the Contract Office for budgetary review and processing until the day before the application is due in Washington. Because of the number of proposals submitted and the multitude of new Federal regulations associated with the submission of applications, it is necessary that there be sufficient time to review each proposal. Therefore, the following policy is effective hereafter.

  1. All grant and contract applications to be submitted in the name of Purdue University or Purdue Research Foundation must be received by the Contract Office through appropriate channels (see Office of the Vice President and Treasurer Memorandum No. A-3) at least ten calendar days prior to the required submission date; otherwise, there can be no assurance that the application will be submitted to the sponsor by the due date.

  2. Facility applications, including the portion of research and training applications requesting funds for construction or renovation, must have the initial approval of the Director of Development Planning prior to the estimating of any costs or the preparation of the proposal in final form. Requests requiring the approval of the Director of Development Planning must be received by that office at least thirty days in advance of the deadline established in the preceding paragraph. Proposals of a substantial amount should be submitted well in advance of the above deadline.

If a proposal is received by the Contract Office or the Director of Development Planning after the dates prescribed above, they shall be under no obligation or responsibility to meet the required submission date.
