Purdue campus including 311 different varieties.
- Crabapple is the most common species of tree on campus,
making up about 11 percent of our tree population.
- The national co-champion Smoke tree graces our
campus, as do the state champion Cockspur Hawthorn and
Jack Pine.
- A study of benefits and costs of tree planting in Chicago
found the projected value of trees (e.g. pollution reduction,
energy savings, property value) is nearly three times greater
than the projected costs.
- A large tree cleans about 330 pounds of CO2 from the
atmosphere each year.
- Trees are the longest living organisms on earth, with
some surviving for over four thousand years.
