Project TeamsThe Project Teams are a component of the Operations and Maintenance Department. They are responsible for completing primarily estimated rehabilitation and maintenance projects on campus for customers including: academic departments, HFS, Intercollegiate athletics, the farms, as well as physical facilities. The work Project Teams complete is designed and estimated by the Office of the University Architect In-house Design department. The Project Teams are organized in multi disciplined crews and are supported by others from Central Shops to complete their assigned projects. The Project Teams have the advantages of being able respond to customer needs and schedules with their familiarity of the campus buildings and how the various departments function. The goals of the Project Teams are to complete projects: efficiently, on time, within budget and with outstanding quality. There are four Project Teams with two under each coordinator who takes care of the administrative responsibilities. Each team consists of a crew chief that runs day-to-day operations, 2 carpenters, 3 electricians, 1 mason, 1 plumber, and 1 steamfitter. This allows each team to coordinate most work on a project within their group. Each team then works with other central shops to support their assigned projects where they do not have the specific trades necessary for specific tasks. Some of these tasks are sheet metal, welding, and electronics. The Project Teams utilize plans and specifications from In-house Design to order materials and equipment for the projects. They then conduct the construction of the project from a determined schedule and in agreement with the customer. |
