The Elevator Shop works to insure the safety and reliability of the Universities' regulated conveying systems including; elevators, dock-lifts, cranes wheel chair lifts and overhead doors.

The department consists of a supervisor, a crew chief, and eight technicians. The elevator technician position is one which requires licensing and certification by the State of Indiana. Training for elevator technicians is a three year process consisting of both classroom and on the job experience.

The department provides necessary stewardship maintenance for over three hundred regulated conveying devices and thirty-five non-regulated conveying and hoisting devices. This group supports Engineering, Utilities and Construction and outside firms in the design and inspection of all elevators are related systems.

The department also provides a support service for other West Lafayette campus departments including athletics and the residence hall system. The department also serves as a resource for the regional campuses.
