Research Assistant Weldon Biomedical Engineering Shaili was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. She received a B.S degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of MN in 2008 and is currently pursuing her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the Weldon School. Her research is focused on designing tissue engineered scaffolds for cartilage repair. Shaili is mainly interested in developing technologies that can be translated into clinical applications, specifically those that would benefit in third world countries. Her ambition is to start a facility in her home country to train biomedical engineers and medical equipment technicians. As Nepal as no professional biomedical engineers, a facility that deals with immediate problems faced by hospitals would fare well. Later on she would like to extend this facility to become a research laboratory dedicated toward designing tissue engineered orthopedic prostheses and other medical devices. |
