SEPTEMBER 10 - CALL-OUT MEETING

 

The club held its first meeting of the fall semester on September 10, 2009. To help everyone get acquainted, there were name tags available for members to wear during the meeting's activities. Free pizza and drinks were provided (as always) to start the evening off, followed by the introduction of Dr. Chapple, Biochemistry Department Head.

Dr. Chapple began by conveying the fact that the department is undergoing significant growth, with a record 112 undergraduates. The revelation of his new idea for the department, an Industrial Advisory Board, was met with much excitement from club members. This organization would consist of company representatives which would visit Purdue twice a year (at the Annual Fall Retreat and for the Senior Seminar Poster Sessions in the Spring) to interact with students and provide advisory feedback to the department.

Following, club officers and advisor Dr. Jim Henderson were introduced, and members participated in a lively ice-breaker. Other business included introducing the idea of forming a student chapter of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), as well as plans for outreach activities and club t-shirt ideas.

The Club officers organized an icebreaker to help everyone get to know each other.
