Topic- How
Students (Should) Study
-
Studies have shown that there is little difference in getting questions correct after reading the material once versus twice.
-
We have been told for every hour we spend in class, we should spend X amount of hours studying outside of the classroom. It is not about how much time you spend though. Effective study strategies decrease the time that is needed for studying.
-
Every time you recall a memory, you are changing that memory
-
Repeated retrieval is a very important study habit, and is one of the most effective ways to study. It is better than repeated studying and concept maps.
-
Generate cues or keywords and then retrieving them can help you learn.
-
Key Points-
-
Memory is not like a filing cabinet
-
Retrieving information produces learning
-
Feeling like you know something does not mean that you actually do
