 The Black Thought Collective will explore selected events, spaces and practices left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, focusing on the Crescent City. Three years after Katrina, the traumatic experiences wrought by this storm have transformed into opportunities for cultural regeneration, civic responsibility and critical reflection. BTC members will share research findings and discuss the continued relevance of Post Katrina New Orleans through a multimedia presentation followed by an open forum discussion.

 Rita Dove served as Poet Laureate at the United States from 1993 - 1995. Among her many honors are the 1987 Pulitzer Prize in poetry. President Clinton bestowed upon her the 1996 National Humanities Medal. She has published six books of poetry, a book of short stories - "Fifth Sunday," a novel-"Through the Ivory Gate," and numerous essays.
