Mission Statement
"The Purdue University Black Cultural Center's Black
Thought Collective is a dialogue-centered and service-learning group
that will foster intellectual enlightenment and educational
opportunities beyond the classroom experience through an Afrocentric
perspective."
Black Thought Collective meetings will be a place students can come
to discuss important topics in an informal setting with qualified
moderatos and an attentive audience. The group has been created to ask
individuals to speak out and express their many different ideas and
beliefs relative to the African American Experience.
Taking on a think tank approach, the BTC will blend seamlessly with
the existing Performing Arts Ensembles at the BCC.
The BTC has three standing committees that provide specific
leadership opportunities for all members. "Black Thought in the Media"
committee focuses on current events particularly publicized through
local, national and international media; "Past to Present" committee
conducts research on black history and culture utilizing the BCC library
and other campus resources; and "The Awareness Movement" committee
focuses on actions to better educate Purdue students, faculty staff and
the surrounding community on black history, black culture, and black
thought.
Members of the Black Thought Collective will need to meet current PAE
requirements relating to GPA, attendance, and participation. All members
of the Black Thought Collective are encouraged to attend a minimum of 3
BCC sponsored events per semester. As a group, The Black Thought
Collective will also be expected to plan, promote, and produce one event
per semester.
