Percussion
Percussion
doesn't just serve as the heartbeat of the "All-American"
Marching Band at Purdue. It flavors every ensemble in the
department. Percussionists can also audition for placement
within the Symphony Orchestra, Concert Bands, Jazz Bands,
Athletic Bands and American Music Review. In addition to
these opportunities, Purdue Bands offers ensembles specifically
for percussion players, such as Purdue Percussion Ensemble
and Winter Drum Line.
Pamela J. Nave
heads the Percussion Ensemble, which performs a large variety
of selected ensemble pieces from Johann Sebastian Bach to
Nigel Westlake. The size of the ensemble varies, depending
on the performance venue. The Purdue Percussion Ensemble
performs at Percussive Arts Society Indiana Day of Percussion
as well as presenting a spring concert on campus. It also
travels to perform at high schools and junior highs across
Indiana. Members of the group frequently perform specialty
numbers with other ensembles on campus such as Symphonic
Band, Varsity Band and other groups using Elliott Hall of
Music.
Winter Drum Line
is another specialized ensemble for percussion players.
Active during the spring semester, the ensemble performs
music created specifically for percussion instrumentation.
