When Alisha Kuckartz resigned her longtime position as coach for the “All-American” Marching Band’s twirlers and dance team in April, a search began for her replacement. It netted Joy McEwen, a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy and the University of Michigan, who coached the West Lafayette High School’s “She-Devils” Dance Team from 2008-2013. She also served as a choreographer for the school’s musical theater program and for its marching band.
Joy was a professional dancer in New York City for fifteen years, serving as a soloist and principal dancer with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company and the Nancy Meehan Dance Company. She teaches various dance and movement classes at Purdue and has choreographed multiple shows for the Purdue Department of Theater.
