Celebration service Aug. 22 for Carolyn Gephart

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Jay, Carolyn and Samantha Gephart

“Carolyn Frantz was the love of my life. She gave me four beautiful children who loved their mother deeply. We honor her as we go through this deep valley together, with Carolyn continuing to lead the charge from her place in heaven.  She will be our biggest champion.  I have never known anyone with a more beautiful heart than Carolyn Frantz,” Jay Gephart, Director of Purdue Bands & Orchestras, speaking of his wife.

Carolyn Frantz Gephart, 49, of Lafayette, died at 7:20 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, 2009 at Clarian Arnett Hospital following a three year battle with breast cancer.

Born Jan. 24, 1960 in Atlanta, GA, she grew up in Salem, VA. She was the daughter of Bouldin and Clarice Frantz of Roanoke, VA. On Aug. 13, 1983, in Roanoke, VA, she was married to Jay S. Gephart who currently serves as Director of Purdue Bands & Orchestras.

A teacher and professional musician, Mrs. Gephart was a graduate of Salem (VA) High School and received her Bachelor’s of Music Education from Indiana University School of Music. She taught public school in Columbus, GA, and Schaumburg, IL. She played oboe in the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra for 15 years and taught private music lessons throughout her career.

She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church but also attended services at Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving, with her husband and parents, are four children, Samantha Ruth Gephart, Molly Elizabeth Gephart, William “Will” Bouldin Gephart, and Elizabeth “Libby” Clarice Gephart, all of Lafayette; and a brother Tommy (wife: Paola) Frantz of Salem, VA.

The dream of Carolyn Gephart’s life was to be a devoted wife and mother.  She adored her children beyond measure and devoted her life to raising them up in the image of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 at Faith Baptist Church, 5526 State Road 26 East, Lafayette. A Celebration of Life service for Carolyn Gephart will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at Faith Baptist Church, Pastor Steve Viars officiating. A private family burial service will be held.
