Attention Alums! Registration open for Indianapolis 500

AAMB alums interested in celebrating 90 years of the “All-American” Band’s involvement with the Indianapolis 500 in May can now register online to march with the Alumni Band in Indianapolis 500 Parade and take part in other race events, May 22-24, 2009.

“We would really like to have 300 band alums marching for this event. Please recruit and bring along some of your old friends,” says Hank Evans, president of the Purdue Band & Orchestra Alumni Club.

Former twirlers, Goldusters and flags are encouraged to participate as well as musicians.

Evans says he particularly needs a Big Bass Drum crew for the event. Even though the real drum will accompany the AAMB in the parade, a special cart and drum are being made for this event. No details have been released on who is making this drum, just that it’s being made.

Festivities begin with a buffet dinner on Friday night, May 22. The Alumni Band will march in the 500 Festival Parade on Saturday, May 23, and at the track on Sunday, May 24. Housing will be provided at the Indiana State Fairgrounds for those wishing it.

Evans hope to reach the goal of 300 marchers by March 1. The final deadline for registering is April 1, 2009. Details of the events, costs and sign up forms are available at the PBOAC website at  www.purduealum.org/pboac
