Ishbah Cox joins Purdue Band faculty

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

Ishbah Cox, former band director at Fountain Central High School and current recruiting coordinator for engineering at Purdue, joins the Band & Orchestra faculty this fall as an instructor.

Immediately, he will assist with marching band and provide leadership for the student offices. “This is a real positive. I can’t remember the last time we had a chance to hire a new faculty member,” says Dept. Head Jay Gephart.

A native of Notasulga, AL, Cox received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Auburn University and his master’s in music performance from the University of Alabama. He currently plays trombone in several community groups including Lafayette’s Big Swing Band. Cox also plays tuba and euphonium and particularly enjoys jazz and gospel music.

He and his wife Monica, an assistant professor of engineering education on campus, met at a high school band camp.
