Drillfield construction finally underwayFriday, August 8, 2008
Mud-coated jeans and devastated tennis shoes will be a thing of the past when the “All-American” Band moves to its new “all-weather” practice field this fall. Work on the field is underway and the band is expected to be able to use it in September.
Completion of the entire project, which includes landscaping and a storage building, is expected in November 2008.
Space currently occupied by several of Purdue’s tennis courts on Third Street is allocated to the drillfield project. The surface will be the same used for the tennis courts which cushions the athlete or marcher’s foot and allows water to drain away.
Two major gifts made the project happen. Bob and Trudy Hull provided the lead gift of $300,000 enabling plans to move forward. Another generous contribution by Bob and Kathy Kowalski of $110,000 completed funding for the field.
