Gephart elected to American Bandmasters Association

Monday, March 17, 2008

Jay Gephart, Director of Bands at Purdue University and director of “All-American” Marching Band, was elected to membership in the American Bandmasters Association at their annual March convention held in Miami, FL. Gephart was one of nine people elected to membership this year.

Gaining membership in this organization is a mark of excellence in the field of band conducting. Gephart joins past Purdue directors Al G. Wright and the late Bill Moffit as a member of this organization.

The purpose of the American Bandmasters Association is to recognize achievement and foster an increasingly high standard of excellence for the concert band, its performers, its standards, and its literature. The ABA honors outstanding achievement by inviting conductors and composers to membership.

The organization was founded in 1929 by Edwin Franko Goldman as well as many other famous bandmasters of the day.  Honorary life presidents include John Philip Sousa, Edwin Franko Goldman, A.A. Harding, Frank Simon, Karl King, Glenn Cliffe Gainum, James Harper, George S. Howard, Mark Hindsley, Don McGinnis and Purdue’s own Al G. Wright.
