Gephart appointed permanently to Director’s position

Prof. Jay Gephart has been appointed permanently to the position of Director of University Bands, effective November 1, 2006. “With the full support of the Provost, this past week I removed the ‘acting’ from Jay's department head title,” announced Dr. Tom Robinson, Vice President of Student Services.

“I am very pleased with the leadership that Jay is providing to the department. Certainly, our students are performing extremely well, and by all accounts, the University Bands Department is having a wonderful fall semester,” Robinson said.

Following Dr. David Leppla’s decision in March 2006 to retire from Purdue, Gephart became acting director of the department. He took over as Director of the “All-American” Marching Band in June 2006 following the Indianapolis 500. Gephart continues to direct the Purdue Symphonic Band.
