Purdue summer band open to campus and community musicians

Purdue University Band's summer band program opens its doors to all musicians – Purdue students, Purdue faculty and staff and community musicians including high school students.

Jay Gephart, as associate professor in the Bands Department, serves as director for the ensemble which begins its rehearsals on Tuesday, June 20. Gephart says the four-week program allows many musicians who love to play, but can't make a commitment to a year-round group, the chance to perform.

Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Elliott Hall of Music Room 15. The culminating event is an outdoor concert at Slayter Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 18.

Admission to the concert is free.

No auditions are involved in the band program. Purdue students can enroll in the Band 330 or Band 430 and receive credit for their involvement, but student status is not necessary for participation. Non-students should contact Gephart to sign up for the band at jsgephart@purdue.edu or (765) 494-7886.
