Congratulations Jazz Festival winners!
The
12th Purdue Jazz Festival, three days filled with concerts, clinics, competitions
and special activities, concluded Saturday, Jan. 19, with five bands - three
from Indiana and Illinois - winning the festival's highest awards. Combos from
John Hersey High School and Edgewood Junior High School, along with Big Bands
from Pike High School, Terre Haute North High School and Prospect High School
were named Honor Bands for the 2002 Festival.
Other
distinctions - including outstanding performance and judges awards - recognized
significant performances in the popular competitive event that filled seven
festival venues with jazz. Twelve students were also recognized as outstanding
soloists. Some 2,000student musicians representing 100 ensembles from 43 high
schools and middle schools from three states participated in the competition.
The
dates for the 2003 festival have been announced as Jan. 17,18 and 19. Announcement
of the jazz headliners for the Friday and Saturday night concerts is expected
in April. For more information on the event contact Mo Trout, director of the
