Alumni Band Participants Kick off the millennium in alumni band/orchestra

Can you think of a better way to begin a new year, and a new millennium, than to kick everything off with an outstanding trip to the Rose Bowl? You know the Rose Bowl experience had a profound effect on our Purdue students - one that will last a lifetime. Hopefully you can say the same for your band and orchestra experience at Purdue.

Whether you participated in marching band, jazz band, concert band, symphony orchestra or AMR, you can relive some of those special memories by participating in one of the Purdue alumni ensembles this April during Gala Week, 2001. This year’s alumni reunions will coincide with the final weekend of Gala Week activities and will feature performances by the Alumni Concert Band and Alumni Jazz Band. Also this year, we will hold reunion events for Alumni AMR and Alumni from the Purdue Symphony Orchestra ( strings only).

The weekend will kick off with the 2001 Alumni Jazz Band and Alumni AMR performing at "Jazz on the Hill" at 5 p.m. Friday, April 20. These two groups will be under the direction of Dr. Mo Trout and Prof. Bill Kisinger. The Alumni Concert Band will perform with the Purdue Symphonic Band and combined Purdue Symphony/Alumni Orchestra, under the direction of Prof. Jay Gephart, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, on the Elliott Hall of Music stage. This performance will be part of the new Purdue Band and Orchestra Showcase weekend!

By now you should have received registration materials for the Alumni weekend in the mail. In case you have misplaced yours or did not receive information, a registration form is enclosed in this issue of Fanfare. Due to the logistics involved with preparing this type of reunion, it is vital that the registration deadline of March 31st is observed.

The sooner we receive your registration form, the quicker we will be able to send music to each participant. Instruments will be available for those who need them, on a first form-received basis. We also encourage you to make reservations at local hotels as soon as possible, as the end of April is a busy time in the Lafayette Area. If you have any questions, please contact Jay Gephart at 765-494-7886 or email him at jsgephart@purdue.edu.

We want as many alumni to return for these events as possible! Won’t you make a point of being with us as we celebrate instrumental music at Purdue University? For those of you who are planning to return for alumni marching band in the fall, this is a perfect chance for you to make sure your instrument works before you return to the gridiron in October. Whatever your area of interest, you will find an exciting weekend planned for all. Let’s make Gala Week 2001 one to remember!
