Frequently Asked Questions

Ordering a concert CD: To order a CD, simply come to the Band Office, Elliott Room 135, and fill out CD order forms located on Pat Newton 's desk. You should be prepared to pay for the CD at this time with cash or check. The cost of a CD is $7.

Reporting an Absence: For marching band, see AAMB handbook. To report an absence from a concert band you must fill out a blue card. These cards can be found in the Band Office as well as both band rooms. Once you fill out the card, you turn it into the mailbox of the director of band that you are missing. Those mailboxes are located in the band office, Elliot Room 135, in the cabinet by the window.

Signing up for a Practice Room: In the band office, Elliott Room 135, there is a binder that holds schedules for all the available practice facilities. You simply look at the desired room, and time you wish to practice, and write in your name to reserve the space. Reservations are accepted on a first-come basis. Note: Availability of the rooms change weekly and the applied music practice room is only open to those in applied music and have lessons in that room.

Where are Practice Rooms located: Practice Room B is located outside of Room 30 (across from the Coke machine). The numbered practice rooms are the dressing rooms located on Elliott's second floor, one floor above the Green Room. Use the stairway by the Coke machine to access them.

To check out an office key (Supply, Ops, Clothing, RR/Outreach, etc.): Come to the Band Office, Elliott 135, and fill out the appropriate form on the desk clipboard, and get the key from Pat Newton . It is courteous to return the key as quickly as possible. Keys must be returned the same day unless permission is asked to keep them longer.

Signing up for Applied Music: Private lessons are available for nearly all instruments. You can choose between a six or eight lesson semester package, and instructors come to Elliott to teach. Lesson times are arranged individually with each student. Lessons can be taken for credit (requiring a jury at the end of the semester) or strictly for personal growth. Contact Dr. Pamela Nave for sign up forms or for more information.

Obtaining a Banquet Ticket: An awards banquet ends each semester and tickets are free for enrolled band/orchestra students. When the availability of banquet tickets is posted in Band Notes, stop by the Band Office, Elliott 135, and pick one up from Pat Newton . Tickets can be purchased for $15 per ticket for non-band friends and family.

Reserving a room for a band-related activity: See Pat Newton in the Band Office, Elliott 135, for the correct form. These reservations should be submitted at least two weeks in advance and will be reviewed for approval by the faculty at their regular Tuesday staff meetings. Applicants will then be informed as to whether their request is approved.
