![]() Student Offices
Library | Clothing | R&R | Supply | Operations | Advancement In addition to their involvement in performing ensembles, many students in Purdue's Department of University Bands choose to participate in the Student Officer Corps. This volunteer organization is comprised of nearly 100 students, who staff six operational offices in the department: the Music Library, Clothing, Records and Recruitment/Public Relations, Supply, Operations, and Outreach & Extension. The Library Office processes, maintains, and distributes the music used by the bands and orchestra. The Clothing Office procures, maintains, and distributes departmental uniforms and costumes. The Records and Recruitment Office maintains all non-official student records, and prepares department mailings; and assists the Public relations staff member in announcing upcoming Band and Orchestra events, catalogs photo archives, maintains an up-to-date performance calendar, and maintains the University Bands Website. The Supply Office manages the instrument and equipment needs of the many performing groups. The Operations Office is responsible for the transport and set-up of equipment and props, prior to each performance. The Advancement Office is responsible for designing and implementing projects that connect and maintain relationships with the worldwide community of Purdue Bands alumni and donors. Each one of these individual offices is managed by a Student Office Head, who is responsible for overseeing the activities of the office, scheduling the activities of volunteers, and recruiting and training new staff members. Although each Office Head reports to a faculty advisor on the Bands Staff, the students operate nearly all of the offices almost independently. Departmental operations would be impossible without the assistance of these volunteers, who play a vital role in the daily functions of the department. In the past, the Bands Department has been unable to offer financial aid to the students who served the department as Office Heads, however, due to the generosity of a Purdue Alum, this situation has changed. During the each academic year, each Student Office Head will be awarded a "Herbert and Janice Wilson Student Leadership Scholarship." Valued at $1,250 a year, these scholarships have been awarded to each of the six Student Office Heads, as well as the Drum Majors in the Marching Band. |
