Applied Music

Purdue University String Quartet

Opportunities for serious musical growth through private lessons abound in Purdue’s Applied Music program. A talented enclave of professional musicians/teachers, recruited from central Indiana, serve as adjunct faculty members and come to campus weekly to offer private lessons.

Private study is available on all string, wind and percussion instruments as well as on piano and guitar. Students interested in chamber music will be assisted in forming ensembles and will receive professional coaching through the Applied Music program. Likewise, singers interested in vocal jazz performance will also receive professional coaching.
A variety of study packages are offered to students at a reasonable charge above and beyond regular tuition. In some situations students are eligible for academic credit as well.

Performance opportunities exist for Applied Music students to perform at concerts as well as special fall and spring recitals and other selected events on campus. Students interested in private study sign up with the Applied Music Coordinator during the first week of classes each semester. A registration form can be downloaded here.
