FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Q: To whom should plans and specifications be sent for project engineer and senior engineer review?

A: Plans and specs should be sent to Sherry Hardebeck, who catalogs, organizes, and maintains the senior and project engineer review area.
  • Q: Should I expect review comments from the building electrical and mechanical senior engineers separate from the project engineers?

A: No. As a general rule, comments from the building electrical and mechanical senior engineers will be communicated through the appropriate project engineers.
  • Q: What is the Project Engineer's role with respect to construction?

A: A project engineer is the lead engineering resource for addressing mechanical and electrical issues through construction and warranty period on capital projects. Anyone can contact the appropriate project engineer at anytime regarding a project. Project engineers will keep the project manager informed with correspondence and resolution of issues. Project engineers will communicate through the construction department with respect to contractor issues.
  • Q: How does the Project Engineer interact with outside architects/engineers? Communication, decisions, direction, etc?

A: The project engineer is to support the project team and the Office of University Architect (OUA) project manager. At the discretion of the OUA project manager, the project engineer will either communicate directly with the outside A/E or through the project manager. In any case the project manager is to be kept informed of all communication.
  • Q: What is the role of the senior engineer (building mechanical and electrical) on capital projects?

A: The role of the senior engineer (building mechanical and electrical) is to serve as an engineering resource to the project engineer and project manager as needed and as appropriate. The role of the senior engineer is first and foremost one of stewardship for campus facilities.
  • Q: Does this distinction of roles for project and senior engineers apply to all Senior Engineers, i.e. Utilities, Civil, etc?

A: No. The project engineers address only building mechanical and electrical issues, therefore, this distinction of roles applies only to Building Mechanical and Electrical Senior Engineers.
