The
Center on Aging and the Life Course is pleased to
announce the 2005 Research Support Grant Program.
This mechanism is a small-grant program to assist
active investigators in their research programs
related to aging and the life course.
Purpose
To
provide funds to faculty who need limited support for
new and ongoing research projects related to aging or
the life course.
Funding
Amounts and Uses
Proposals
should request a minimum of $250 to a maximum $1000.
Any Purdue University tenure-track faculty member or
clinical faculty who is administratively based in
West Lafayette is eligible to apply. The funds can
be used to meet any reasonable research-related
expenses such as equipment needs, books, software,
domestic travel, student assistants, photocopying, or
other usual and customary expenses. A total of
$6,000 is available for this program. Cost-sharing
of expenses is acceptable. Any materials or
publications prepared should acknowledge the
assistance of a Research Support Grant from the
Center on Aging and the Life Course (CALC).
Application
Application
is included and is due February 28,
2005. The funds are to be spent by June 1,
2006. A committee of the CALC Faculty Associates not
applying for this award will review and rank the
proposals and submit their recommendations to the
Director. Only one proposal per faculty member may
be submitted for this competition. Funding priority
will be given to applicants not previously funded
through this program. Proposals are to be
submitted electronically to favorite@purdue.edu.
The proposal can be in Word format, or in Web (HTML)
format. We anticipate announcing awards by the end
of March 2005.
Lynn
Fellowships*
Funding
Objectives:
The Gerontology Program is pleased to announce the
availability of Lynn Fellowships for the 2004-05
academic year. The objective of this request for
proposals is to identify the incoming graduate
students who will receive these fellowships and the
faculty members who will serve as advisors to the
fellowship recipients. Priority will be given to
students with strong academic records who have
expressed an interest in pursuing Ph.D. training in
age-related topics. Center on Aging and the Life
Course Faculty Associates from all areas, including
the social and behavioral sciences, biomedical
sciences, and engineering, are encouraged to submit
applications.
General
Information
Lynn Fellowships are made available by the Graduate
School to increase the visibility and success of
interdisciplinary graduate programs. They are
awarded as one-year fellowships, with the stipulation
that three years of additional support be guaranteed
to the student.
The
Graduate School provides a base stipend of $14,000,
plus $967 for the medical insurance supplement.
Tuition and fee scholarships are also provided by the
Graduate School. The student’s home department is
required to provide a minimum cost share of $2,000
per year and is required to provide full support
(currently $16,000, plus the appropriate insurance
supplement) at the same or higher level to the
student for three additional years, assuming
satisfactory progress is made toward the
degree.
Purdue
does not withhold taxes from fellowship stipends;
however, students should consult with a tax expert
regarding their tax responsibilities. Recipients of
the Lynn Fellowships must, in general, be enrolled as
a full-time student in each session that they receive
the stipend. The general policy of the Graduate
School is that students may not receive an additional
fellowship/assistantship stipend concurrently with a
Lynn Fellowship.
Review Process
A
committee of Gerontology Program Faculty Associates
will review each application. The review committee
will discuss each application, and funding priorities
will be assigned.
Requirements for Awardees
Departments
are required to make a three-year commitment for
support to the student, which starts upon the
completion of the Lynn Fellowship. Awardees should
acknowledge Center on Aging and the Life Course and
Graduate School support in all publications derived
from the Lynn Fellow’s activities.
Submission Information
The
following one-page application, including the
original and four copies, should be submitted to
Peggy Favorite, Center on Aging and the Life Course,
YONG 826. Contact Peggy at 494-5404 or favorite@purdue.edu
with any questions. The deadline for receipt
of proposals is February 1, 2005. It is
anticipated that the fellowship awards will be
announced by March 4, 2005.
