Cadet Life

Lead Lab & Flight Meetings

The purpose of the LLAB program is to augment the AFROTC academic curriculum by providing prospective Air Force officers the opportunities and feedback needed to develop leadership, managerial, and supervisory skills required of successful Air Force officers.

Here are some things you can expect from LLAB:

  • Provide first-year cadets an informative and motivational program designed to recruit, retain, and familiarize cadets with the Air Force way of life and foster leadership, followership, teamwork, and esprit de corps.
  • Provide cadets scheduled to attend field training with the mental and physical skills needed to succeed in the AFROTC field training environment.
  • Provide cadets returning from field training sufficient opportunities to demonstrate and develop the leadership and management skills needed to successfully function as an active duty officer.
  • Provide cadets to be commissioned additional opportunities to demonstrate and develop the leadership and management skills needed to successfully function as an active duty officer and to adequately prepare them to transition from the AFROTC environment to active duty.
  • The purpose of flight meetings is to teach GMC cadets how to wear their uniform, march, and proper customs and courtesies. This environment also allows closer interaction between the flight commanders and the cadets in that flight.

Physical Training

Physical fitness is an important part of the Air Force. Therefore, we as future officers of the Air Force must always be fit. Our physical fitness program meets three times a week except for three-day weekends. You will receive more information regarding this once the semester starts. The first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) of the year is held about 6-8 weeks into the Fall semester. At that point we expect all of our cadets are able to meet the minimum physical fitness scores. Refer to the AFROTC site for more info regarding scores and testing.

Aerospace Studies Courses

Aerospace Studies Courses

The aerospace studies courses are another integral part of becoming an Air Force officer. You will learn the roots of the Air Force, about the current Air Force, and everything you need to know about National Security and Active Duty. During your time in AFROTC, you will have one aerospace studies course per semester. The first two years consist of one hour a week, while the second two years go a little more in depth and consist of three credit hours a week.

College Life & Homework

College is a great part of everyone’s life. It is a time to experience life on your own, but this freedom brings many responsibilities and challenges. Do not forgot that grades are important to the Air Force! If you don’t graduate, you will not commission! Make sure that you do not become overwhelmed, and if you need help, ask. Our detachment and cadets are always willing to help. Although college is a challenging time in your life, it is not all work and no play. On top of working on your degree and being a part of AFROTC, both Purdue and the detachment offer a variety of clubs, intramural sports, and organizations to join. With a good balance and dedication, you will find college life, and AFROTC, one of the most fun and rewarding experiences of your life.
