Advising Task Bank
In November 2011, the advising community of Purdue University West Lafayette, at the behest of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs, began meeting to discuss emerging roles of advisors on campus to foster student success. The committee included faculty advisors, professional advisors, head advisors and advisors without supervisory roles, all working together to shape the advising across the West Lafayette campus.
The committee's charge included:
- Documentation of the emerging roles of the faculty advisor, professional advisor and advising support staff.
- Creating a standard job description, minimum qualification and career ladder progression within each role.
- Proposal of a model for centralized coordination of advising standards, training/development and ongoing continuous improvement initiatives.
Adopted in the fall of 2013, the information includes position descriptions for all professional advising roles and the units involved in reviewing the process, hiring new positions, and updating positions. This information is provided by the Office of the Director of University Undergraduate Academic Advising.
