Foreign Language Departmental Credit
Students placed in French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, or Spanish 102 will be granted credit for 101 upon successful completion of 102.
Students placed into 201, 202, or beyond in all of the languages for which a test is offered, may earn six, nine, or 12 credits respectively without a grade. In some cases, successful completion of the next higher course is required before credit is granted.
To inquire about missing credit, contact the placement secretary in FLL.
Arabic, Hebrew, Italian, and Classical Studies
- These sections are in the process of changing to placement only exams.
- The policy is not finalized, but students are advised that they may not get credit by exam in these languages.
Native and Heritage Speakers
When native or heritage speakers successfully complete an advanced content course in their language, the advisor may apply for departmental credit for 101-202 in that language.
Credit for Languages not Taught at Purdue
- Students who wish to use such a language to satisfy their CLA other language requirement must arrange for testing by a faculty member at a university where the language is taught (the faculty member must teach the language).
- The student will need to obtain a formal letter from the faculty member detailing his/her level in the language for credit toward the FL requirement at Purdue.
