Only credits from Purdue University will count towards CODO

CODO requirements listed are for the 2017 catalog term; students following prior catalog terms should check with the department for prior CODO requirements.

Major/Program Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering
General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 2 Minimum Credits: 30 Minimum GPA: 3.2
Course Requirements Students must complete the following courses with a grade of C or better:
  • MA 16100 or MA 16500
  • MA 16200 or MA 16600
  • CHM 11500
  • PHYS 17200
  • Oral Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically COM 11400)
  • Written Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically ENGL 10600)
Other Requirements
  • Students are admitted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS only.
  • Students must have a 3.0 average GPA in any engineering, science, and math courses completed prior to CODO. This includes CS 15900 and CGT 16300 if taken.
  • Student must be in good academic standing (not on probation).

Major/Program Agricultural Engineering (XEAG)
General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 1 Minimum Credits: 12 Minimum GPA: 2.5
Course Requirements

Students must complete the following (courses taken at Purdue must be completed with at least a C-):

  • MA 16100 or MA 16500
  • MA 16200 or MA 16600
  • CHM 11500
  • CHM 11600
  • PHYS 17200
  • Oral Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically COM 11400)
  • Written Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically ENGL 10600)
Other Requirements
  • CODO into Agricultural Engineering is only applicable to students not in First Year Engineering. FYE students must follow the Transition to Major process.
  • Student must be in good academic standing (not on probation).

Major/Program Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering (ENRE)
General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 1 Minimum Credits: 12 Minimum GPA: 2.0
Course Requirements Students must complete the following courses with a C- or better in each and a 2.0 average GPA:

  • MA 16200 or MA 16600

Major/Program Biomedical Engineering (BME)
At this time, Biomedical Engineering is not accepting CODO students from other Colleges/Schools at Purdue. Any student interested in BME must come from the First-Year Engineering program.

Major/Program Chemical Engineering
General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 1 Minimum Credits: 12 Minimum GPA: 3.3
Course Requirements Students must complete the following courses with a 3.3 average GPA:
  • MA 16100 or MA 16500
  • MA 16200 or MA 16600
  • CHM 11500
  • CHM 11600
  • PHYS 17200
  • ENGL 1060 or COM 11400
Other Requirements
  • Of the 12 required credits taken at Purdue, 6 must be completed in technical and math coursework.
  • Students must be in good academic standing (not on probation).

Major/Program Civil Engineering
General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 1 Minimum Credits: 24 Minimum GPA: 2.5
Course Requirements Students must complete a total of 24 credits from the list of courses below, with a minimum of a C- in all courses.

  • MA 16100 or MA 16500
  • MA 16200 or MA 16600
  • CHM 11500 (or equivalent)
  • PHYS 17200
Additional course options to reach 24 credit minimum:
  • CHM 11600 (preferred) or CS15900
  • COM 11400

Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies
General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 1 Minimum Credits: 12 Minimum GPA: 2.5
Course Requirements Completion of all courses listed below with an average GPA of 2.0 and no grade lower than a C-:
  • MA 16100 or MA 16500
  • MA 16200 or MA 16600
  • CHM 11500
  • PHYS 17200
  • Science Selective (typically CS 15900 or CHM 11600)
  • Oral Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically COM 11400)
  • Written Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically ENGL 10600)
  • Transforming Ideas to Innovation I & II (typically ENGR 13100 and ENGR 13200)
  • A minimum of 6 credit hours of professional engineering course work (200 level or above) completed at Purdue University.
Other Requirements
  • Students must submit a plan of study for the desired concentration that is endorsed by the Director or the MDE/IDES advisor. See Engineering Education website for details.
  • Average GPA of 2.0 or better in any Engineering courses (200-level or higher) completed prior to CODO.
  • Students on academic probation will not be accepted.

Major/Program First-Year Engineering
General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 1 Minimum Credits: 10 Minimum GPA: 2.0
Course Requirements

To be eligible, a student must complete at least 10 credits from the following courses, with at least one course for a grade from each of the following three categories:

    • Category 1: Any MA courses used on any P-WL Engineering degree requirements list.
    • Category 2: Any BIOL, CHM, CS, or PHYS courses used on any P-WL Engineering degree requirements list.
    • Category 3: An Introductory Engineering course, or a course from one of the following Foundational Outcomes lists: Written Communication, Oral Communication, Humanities, or Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Other Requirements
  • Students will be admitted on a space available basis.
  • A CODO GPA will be calculated based on all graded courses from the P-WL campus in Categories 1 and 2, and one graded course from the P-WL campus from Category 3 (see www.purdue.edu/fye for information about how the Category 3 course is chosen).
  • All courses used in the calculation of the CODO GPA must have earned grades of C– or higher.
  • All courses used to fulfill Category 1, 2, and 3 must be taken on the P-WL campus for a letter grade.
  • A student may not be on academic probation.
  • Though CODO to FYE is space limited, CODO admission is guaranteed for students completing required courses with a CODO GPA of 3.20 or higher.

Major/Program Industrial Engineering (IE-BSE)
General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 2 Minimum Credits: 30 Minimum GPA: 2.0
Course Requirements Students must complete the following courses with a 2.0 average GPA:
  • MA 16100 or MA 16500
  • MA 16200 or MA 16600
  • CHM 11500 or equivalent
  • PHYS 17200 or equivalent
  • FYE Science Selective (CS 15900, CHM 11600, or BIOL 11000)
  • Oral Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically COM 11400)
  • Written Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically ENGL 10600)
Other Requirements Student must be in good academic standing (not on probation).

Major/Program Materials Engineering
General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 2 Minimum Credits: 30 Minimum GPA: 2.5
Course Requirements

Students must complete the following courses with a 2.0 average GPA:

  • MA 16200 or MA 16600
  • CHM 11500
  • PHYS 17200
  • FYE Science Selective (CHM 11600 recommended)
  • Oral Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically COM 11400)
  • Written Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically ENGL 10600)
Other Requirements
  • Student must be in good academic standing (not on probation).
  • Note that CHM 11600 and COM 11400 are part of the degree requirements in Materials Engineering and completing these beforehand is recommended.

Major/Program Mechanical Engineering
General Requirements Minimum Semesters: 3 Minimum Credits: 45 Minimum GPA: 3.4
Course Requirements
  • MA 16100 or MA 16500

  • Science Selective (typically CS 15900 or CHM 11600)
  • Oral Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically COM 11400)
  • Written Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically ENGL 10600)
  • Transforming Ideas to Innovation I & II
  • A minimum of 12 credit hours of professional engineering course work (beyond FYE courses) must be taken from the Purdue West Lafayette Campus.
Other Requirements
  • Students are admitted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS only. Meeting the stated requirements does not guarantee admission into ME, rather these are the minimum requirements needed for eligibility. Eligible students will be reviewed holistically and accepted on a space available basis.
  • Students must earn a 3.4 average GPA or higher in any engineering, science, and math courses completed prior to CODO.
  • A minimum of 15 credits must be successfully completed in the CODOing semester.
  • Students on academic probation will not be accepted under any circumstances.
