The purpose of the Committee shall be to promote the individual and corporate professional growth of the membership for the benefit of the advisors, students, and University as a whole.
Professional Development Committee Activities
The Fall Retreat is a full day event for members. It focuses on relevant advising or student services themes, facilitated by knowledgeable speakers. The retreat allows members to discuss in detail specific topics of interest while also getting a chance to network with colleagues from all parts of campus. The retreat is open to staff from regional campuses. The cost of the retreat, which includes lunch, is generally around $15.
The Open House allows a department, college or school the opportunity to showcase their particular area.
The Annual Business Meeting discusses the current status of the committees, as well as the financial status of the organization. Also highlighted at this meeting is a particular academic or student services department.
PACADA Presents is a forum for members to present new ideas, findings and practices that might be of interest to members. Any PACADA member may submit a proposal by the designated deadline to the committee for review.
PACADA Grants provide grant money earmarked by the Steering Committee to support members who wish to attend the NACADA National, Great Lakes Region, or IAAN (State) Conference. Interested members must submit the application by the deadline and be selected by the committee to receive the grant money. A maximum of $400 for the national conference, $200 for the regional conference, and $100 for the state conference will be awarded.
Spotlight Series is a presentation format which allows relevant parties to communicate timely topics to PACADA members. A spotlight series may occur at any time of the year.
