- Students who begin their Purdue degrees in the Undergraduate Studies Program (USP) have up to four semesters to explore their academic and career interests before deciding on a major.
- In the first semester, the students take Academic and Career Planning, which helps them learn more about potential careers, personality characteristics, and Purdue majors, among other topics. The significant amount of personal attention students receive in the program also helps them in the process of choosing the right major.
- USP students earn credits toward their Purdue degrees by taking general courses that are required for most Purdue programs, such as English Composition, Mathematics, and Fundamentals of Speech Communication. Past participants have moved into every major on campus, graduating at the same rate as or better than peers who started in other Purdue programs.
