Beginning Monday, June 1st, WBAA shares some of the finest orchestras from across the country and around the world with you each weeknight at 8:00.
Mondays, Lisa Simeone hosts broadcasts of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a unique format that illustrates the fascinating stories found inside the music. With the powerful sounds of the CSO as its centerpiece, each broadcast features interviews with the orchestra’s musicians, guest artists, and composers.
Tuesdays, we present concerts by the San Francisco Symphony from Davies Symphony Hall. Since its first concerts, the San Francisco Symphony has played a defining role in American cultural life. Today, it's defining what the orchestra of the 21st century will be. Hosted by Ric Malone, these broadcasts feature performances of standard and adventuresome repertoire directed by Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas and guest conductors.
Performances from Amsterdam's Acoustical Gem brighten your Wednesday evenings as hosts Hans Haffmans and Cynthia Wilson present Radio Netherlands' classical music concert series Live! at the Concertgebouw. Built in 1888, the Concertgebouw is considered one of the finest concert venues in the world. In fact, Bernard Haitink who once described the Concertgebouw as the "best instrument in the orchestra it houses." Today, some nine hundred concerts per year take place in the Concertgebouw, for a public of over 800,000, making it the second most-visited concert hall in the world.

Thursdays bring you broadcasts by the oldest symphony orchestra in the United States, the New York Philharmonic. Founded in 1842, the orchestra’s remarkable achievements have been richly documented through a wide variety of photographs, recordings, and for over 85 years, broadcasts on radio stations across the country. The Philharmonic has made nearly 2,000 recordings since 1917 (with more than 500 currently available), currently plays some 180 concerts a year, and on December 18, 2004, gave its 14,000th concert — a milestone unmatched by any other symphony orchestra in the world.
Fridays, legendary broadcaster Robert Conrad hosts a 13-part series of broadcasts by Apollo’s Fire, a renowned Cleveland-based ensemble dedicated to the performance of 17th- and 18th-century music on the period instruments for which it was written. Music Director Jeannette Sorrell and her ensemble have been praised internationally for stylistic freshness and buoyancy, animated spontaneity, technical excellence, and for the creativity of Sorrell's programming. Captured in concert, these performances and possess all the excitement and vitality found only in live performance.
