News for Student Services
July 2008 - PurduE-Board
For PurduE-Board there are many planned improvements on the way this summer. It was announced in April, 2008 that sidewalk flyers would be eliminated. A committee that included Purdue students, faculty, and staff worked on a host of more cost-effective and efficient ways to communicate with students regarding campus activities. PurduE-Board will play a key role of assisting this effort in two ways.
First, we have proposed that PurduE-Board act as the “hub” or feeder system to other output mechanisms that could support communication announcements such as flyers. We believe with some minor modifications the PurduE-Board will facilitate feeding many communication/announcement channels (where appropriate) to include but not be limited to SA Link, Boiler TV (BTV), myPurdue portal, facebook, MySpace, and YouTube. A new Student Activities system that includes a Web community for student organization members and visitors is to be implemented in July of 2008. It is envisioned that this software will eventually be interfaced with the myPurdue portal application to provide additional functionality and exposure of flyers to the student body.
Second, e-Sidewalk flyer is a new feature along with the display of approved flyers as floating advertisements. This new feature is available July 14, 2008. This feature allows anyone with a career account to submit an announcement regarding a campus event and have it appear on e-Sidewalk. Flyers will appear in PurduE-Board with the newest submissions appearing at the bottom. As the event date approaches, the announcement is moved up towards the top of the list.
