02/98-- Purdue researchers says that composting manure is a cost- and labor-efficient way for medium and large livestock operations to mange waste. Workers at the Purdue dairy farm use a tractor-pulled windrow turner to turn compost. Because the compost reaches temperatures of up to 150 degrees, the freshly turned compost piles give off steam even in the warm summer.
