Denis, professor of finance at the Krannert School of Management, has assumed the position of associate dean, programs and student services. Denis, who has been at the Krannert School since 1995, began her new position at the beginning of the spring semester. She will oversee the undergraduate and master's degree programs and coordinate the direction and improvements in the programs. Denis replaces Gerald J. Lynch, who after a spring semester sabbatical that he will spend at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., will return to teaching. Lynch became the Krannert School's first associate dean, programs and student services, in 2001. Faculty and staff honorsP. V. Ramachandran, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry, has been elected the 2006 chairman of the Division of Fluorine Chemistry of the American Chemical Society. He was elected by the members of the division and served as the membership vice chairman since 2003. The vice chair serves the division for three years before becoming the chair. Ramachandran received his doctorate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1983 and joined Purdue University in 1984 as a postdoctoral research associate with the late professor Herbert C. Brown. He then became a research scientist in 1987 before joining the faculty in 1997. He is a leading expert in fluorine and boron chemistry, and leads a team of 15 researchers at the Herbert C. Brown Center for Borane Research at Purdue. He specializes in organic synthesis and energy research, and currently coordinates the Hydrogen Initiative of Purdue's Discovery Park Energy Center. He is the author of more than 100 original research publications, several book chapters and also has edited two books. The American Chemical Society, founded in 1876, is a self-governed individual membership organization with more than 158,000 members from all fields of chemistry. The organization provides a broad range of opportunities for peer interaction and career development, regardless of professional or scientific interests.
