PharmaTAP

Our Mission. As an engagement program of Purdue School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Purdue’s Technical Assistance Program (TAP), PharmaTAP is catalyzing improvement in patient safety, clinical quality and efficiency in any setting where medications are used.

Our Clients. Our clients are healthcare providers seeking pragmatic, quantitative, evidence-based, and customized solutions to improve medication practices and systems design.

Our Expertise. Through PharmaTAP, practitioners have access to Purdue’s expertise in medication safety, pharmacy practice, biomedical and industrial engineering, nursing and technology. Multidisciplinary teams are assembled from Purdue’s deep pool of research expertise and tailored to the specific interest of those seeking assistance. PharmaTAP also collaborates with other academic centers, associations, organizations, and vendors.

Our Services. Multidisciplinary teams are available to:

  • Assess pharmacy operations with recommendations for improvement
  • Assess organizational compliance with Joint Commission Medication Management Standards and National Patient Safety Goals
  • Investigate and evaluate events involving medications to prevent recurrences
  • Provide training programs on safe practices and performance improvement
  • Work with all levels of staff to improve system performance using Lean Healthcare, FMEA and team facilitation tools
  • Provide materials to aid change in new, emerging topic areas
  • Support academic centers and others interested in improving safe medication practices through demonstration projects and/or research
