SANS Partnership Series

Purdue partners with the SANS Institute, one of the most trusted and largest sources for information security training, certification and research in the world. Through the SANS Partnership, Purdue has been able to offer industry-leading information security training at a fraction of the price, without travel costs or time away from work and home.

The format that we are currently using most frequently is the vLive format. SANS vLive! delivers live online security training with SANS top instructors directly to your desktop. vLive! uses cutting-edge webcast technology to deliver the SANS conference experience to you LIVE, no matter where you are! It's the closest thing to being at a SANS conference without actually being there! System requirements will be clearly stated at the outset and this allows you time to get your computer ready to fully utilize the training time once the session starts. You are able to interface with the instructor from your remote site via the online tool Elluminate that is used to deliver the class presentation.

SANS Mentor

SANS Mentor format classes are set up so that the student conducts self-study of the manuals with a 2 hour class time scheduled weekly with the instructor who will answer questions and provide lab exercise assistance.

The course material for a Mentor session is the same material students would receive at a large conference event. Mentor students will each receive the course books as well as MP3 audio files of the instructor teaching the class as well. These MP3s are a great addition to the class as the students can listen to the MP3s as they study in between Mentor class sessions and also utilize them to prepare for the GIAC exam. We can run a Mentor session with as few as 4 students and we can have classes up to 15 people. Typically the classes start after working hours  6-6:30PM, but if the group is all Purdue employees and an earlier start time works for everyone, that is not a problem.
