What is fraternity and sorority recruitment?

Purdue is home to one of the largest fraternity and sorority communities in the nation, with 60 chapters and about 17 percent of undergraduates. The Greek community governing boards have information meetings or callouts during Boiler Gold Rush and the first week of classes to provide a general introduction to Greek life and how to join. Information about fraternities and sororities is available from the Office of the Dean of Students and online at www.purdue.edu/greek.

What is cooperative housing?

Twelve cooperative houses, five for men and seven for women, are leased or owned and operated by students. Each unit, which houses about 35 to 60 men or women, is approved by the Office of the Dean of Students and has a faculty/staff advisor. Residents work in the house from four to six hours a week and pay approximately $2,800 annually for room and board.

New members are selected by the current members of each house through a recruitment process early in the spring semester. For further information, contact the Office of the Dean of Students or the Purdue Cooperative Council, Box 606, Stewart Center, (765) 496-2622.

Visit www.purduecooperatives.org for more information.

What types of clubs does Purdue have?

There are more than 800 student clubs and organizations that are active on Purdue’s campus. Many groups hold informational meetings or callouts early in both the fall and spring semesters, which are announced in The Exponent newspaper, on posters around campus, and on table notices in the University Residences dining facilities. Early in the fall semester, clubs have tables full of information at the Activities Bonanza that takes place at the Purdue Memorial Union.

How can I get involved in student government?

Purdue Student Government (PSG) welcomes new student involvement and has a callout each semester. Opportunities include the programming board, student court, student legal resources, and cabinet positions. Visit the Web site at web.ics.purdue.edu/~psg/.
