How do I Identify COI in Sponsored Research, Technology Transfer and/or Relationships with Outside Organizations?
Conflicts of interest that are related to sponsored research, technology transfer and/or relationships with
outside organizations, may arise and can be identified in the following situations:
- While submitting a sponsored project proposal, the PI will determine whether he/she and/or a key investigator or any
family member of these individuals have a financial or management interest in the project sponsor or some other entity
that may benefit from the project.
- During the disclosure of an invention and the development of subsequent technology transfer agreements it may
become apparent that the inventor(s) or their family members have a financial or management interest in a company that has
a financial relationship with the University and may wish to work with on the invention’s development, manufacturing or
marketing.
- The outside organization in which an employee has a personal financial interest has a financial relationship with the
University.
