Effective immediately, it is each veteran's responsibility to complete a Veteran Request for Enrollment Certification Form each semester and return it to the VA Certifying Official. The form must be filled out before Purdue can certify your enrollment to receive your monthly benefits. Click on the link to view and print the   VA Request Form.

WELCOME

The goal of the Office of the Registrar Veterans Affairs is to ensure prompt delivery of veterans’ educational entitlements to all eligible students. Additional information concerning veterans educational benefits can be found on the Department of Veterans Affairs Education Web site:  http://www.gibill.va.gov/

NEW EDUCATION BENEFIT FOR ACTIVATED RESERVISTS

Applicants for the REAP (Reserve Educational Assistance Program) should submit a DD Form 2384 – Notice of Basic Eligibility and VA Form 22-1990 for first time applicants.  If you are presently qualified under Ch. 1606 (Reserve Guard Montgomery GI Bill), and wish to transfer to Ch. 1607, you can complete the VA Form 22-1995.   Ch. 1607 is a new Department of Defense education benefit program designed to provide educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or national emergency (contingency operation) as declared by the President or Congress.  This new program makes certain individuals who were activated after September 11, 2001, either eligible for education benefits or eligible for increased benefits.

What is "Reserve Educational Assistance Program" (REAP)? For more information go to the following Web site http://www.gibill.va.gov/pamphlets/CH1607/REAP_FAQ.htm

APPLICATION FOR VETERANS EDUCATIONAL ENTITLEMENT

Active duty persons who contributed to the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30) should have the member 4 copy of the DD Form 214 for submission with the Application for Educational Entitlement (VA Form 22-1990).  http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/22-1990.pdf

Applicants for the Reserve Guard Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 1606) should submit a DD Form 2384, Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE), Selected Reserve Educational Assistance Program, with the Application for Educational Entitlement (VA Form 22-1990).  http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/22-1990.pdf

Applicants for the Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits (Chapter 31) must have a VA Disability Rating of 20 percent or higher and should complete the Disabled Veterans Application for Vocational Rehabilitation, obtained through the Office of the Registrar VA representative. A counselor at the VA regional office in Indianapolis will contact you regarding your eligibility. The VA will make payments directly to Purdue University for tuition and fees.

If your parent is a disabled veteran with less than a 100 percent disability and you wish to claim benefits as the Child of a Disabled Veteran (CDV), visit the Division of Financial Aid Web site http://www.purdue.edu/DFA/ to file an application for fee remission.

If your parent is a 100 percent disabled veteran or deceased due to a service-related injury, you may be eligible for both Indiana (Chapter 35) and Federal benefits. Visit the Division of Financial Aid Web site http://www.purdue.edu/DFA/ to file an application for fee remission. Visit the Office of the Registrar to submit the Application for Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance for the Indiana benefits.  http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/22-5490.pdf

CERTIFICATION OF VETERANS EDUCATIONAL ENTITLEMENTS

Prior to the beginning of each semester, you should confirm your enrollment by providing the Office of the Registrar with a printout of your class schedule. The Office of the Registrar will certify only courses that meet requirements of your educational objective as listed in the appropriate program catalog. The Office of the Registrar cannot certify courses that you have taken twice or are trying to improve on a passing grade. The VA will not pay for incomplete grades.

SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS AND CHANGES IN ENROLLMENT STATUS

You must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards http://www.purdue.edu/oop/univregs/pages/ac_regs_pro/schol_def.html in order to receive payment of VA education entitlements. It is your responsibility to notify us of any changes in your enrollment status: reducing total enrollment hours below full-time, increasing enrollment from less than full-time, or changing your declared major.

GETTING STARTED

    1. You must be admitted and registered before the VA representative in the Office of the Registrar will process your paperwork.
    2. For recipients of Chapter 30 and Chapter 1606, submit the Application for Educational Entitlement (VA Form 22-1990) http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/22-1990.pdf to the Office of the Registrar VA representative.
    3. For recipients of Chapter 35, submit the Application for Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/22-5490.pdf to the Office of the Registrar VA representative.

If you are already receiving benefits under Chapter 30 or Chapter 1606 and are changing schools or major, submit the Request for Change of Program or Place of Training http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/22-1995.pdf to the Office of the Registrar VA representative. If you are already receiving benefits under Chapter 35 and are changing schools or majors, submit the Request for Change of Program or Place of Training Survivors’ and Dependents’ Education Assistance http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/VBA-22-5495-ARE.pdf to the Office of the Registrar VA representative.

    4. The VA representative in the Office of the Registrar will submit paperwork for Chapters 30, 1606, and 35 to the VA Regional Office in St. Louis and Chapter 31 to the VA Regional Office in Indianapolis. The VA generally takes eight-to-ten weeks to process the paperwork.  You will receive notification of your award at the address you provided on your application.
    5. Students who are receiving benefits under Chapter 30 and 1606 must submit a monthly attendance verification in order to receive their check. You may do this by contacting the VA Regional office at 1-877-823-2378 or by visiting www.gibill.va.gov/ and selecting the WAVE link.   If you have not heard from the VA in more than eight weeks, you may wish to contact the St. Louis office to check on the status of your benefits at 1-888-442-4551.
    6. Recipients now have the option of having their monthly check deposited directly to their checking accounts. Please call 1-888-442-4551 to establish direct deposit. You will need to provide your checking account routing number and account number (written along the bottom of your checks).
    7. If direct deposit has not been elected, benefit checks will be sent to the veteran’s address provided on their application. An individual may request the advance pay option if he/she is enrolled at least half-time. The advance paycheck will cover the initial or partial month and the following month at the beginning of the semester. The first check for the advance pay option will be sent to the Office of the Registrar and distributed by the VA representative. Application for the advance pay option should be made in writing and submitted to the Office of the Registrar VA representative eight weeks before the start of the semester.
    8. Veterans are responsible for payment of their fees to the Bursar by the semester payment deadlines.
