November 16, 2011 - Physical Facilities User Home Directory (H: drive) Changes
In preparation for the upcoming migration to Windows 7, ITaP Cooperative Services Desktop Support (CSDS) group will be modifying the structure of your H: drive this weekend, causing computers to be restarted both before and after the process.
On Friday, November 18, at 6 p.m., a remote reboot of your workstation will take place. The reboot should be complete by 6:15 p.m. Please remember to logoff your workstation (not shutdown) before that time. To minimize data loss it is extremely important that you save any unsaved work and close all applications before your machine reboots.
Following the restart, your Home directory will be modified creating two new folders, Favorites and Documents and all folders and files (except Favorites and SapWorkDir) will become subfolders/files under the new Documents folder. Please review link Physical Facilities User Home Directory (H: drive) Changes: for complete details.
Files on your H: drive will be unavailable during the modification, so please plan on them being unavailable until after 6 AM on Saturday, November 19th.
To complete the process, on Sunday, November 20 at 6 p.m., another remote reboot of your workstation will take place. This reboot will put into place a script that will redirect any of your H: drive desktop shortcuts to reflect their new location under H:\Documents.
Outlook psts stored on H: You will need to reconnect your psts if stored on H:.
Desktop Shortcuts to H: should be automatically redirected. If not, please restart you computer and log in. If still not working, please logoff and back on again before contacting 44000
IE web browser Favorites: Will be copied automatically from your computer into H:\Favorites each time you log off of the computer.
